Ensure uninterrupted communication on the rails with Bird's RailHawk® Railway Test Kit. Our comprehensive kit empowers technicians to maintain high-quality service networks, avoiding downtime and unnecessary expenses. Say goodbye to trial and error and optimize your communication infrastructure with ease.
Bird’s RailHawk Railway Test Kits combine a unique set of components specifically designed to support all critical RF systems used in rail operations, including:
Safety-critical control (PTC, ATCS) at 160, 220, 450, and 900 MHz
Data offload and telemetry (WiFi, 915 MHz, Cellular)
Crew voice and remote control (VHF 160 MHz, 450 MHz)
Positioning and timing (GPS 1575 MHz)
Through VSWR and distance-to-fault (DTF) testing, you can ensure that antennas, cables, and connectors for these systems, critical for maintaining railway communication reliability, are properly matched and free of damage or signal reflections.
The RH-RR-KIT includes everything you need to immediately start testing your Railway Communications systems in a single rugged case.
The RH-RR-KIT-3 is a modification of the standard RH-RR-KIT. It includes a 4.3/10 Adapter Kit in place of 7/16 DIN adapters. It replaces the 7020-1-010101 sensor with a 7020-1-030301 power sensor that covers lower frequencies and power. It also omits an extra SMA(m) adapter.
The RH-RR-KIT-4 is a modification of the standard RH-RR-KIT. It forgoes Bird's standard adapter kits for a set of adapters for connecting straight to 7/16 DIN or 4.3/10 male or female RF connectors. It also replaces the 25 W load with a 50 W load.
Each RailHawk kit includes everything you need to get started verifying and troubleshooting your RF systems in a single rugged case:
Each RailHawk kit includes different adapter configurations for connecting to 7/16 DIN and/or 4.3/10 RF connectors, commonly used on railways.
See More AdaptersThe Bird 7020 Series power sensors are ideal for wideband RF power measurements needed for communication systems. The included 25 or 50 W load allows you to take terminated power measurements of your RF systems.
Learn More about the 7020 SeriesWhen technicians or those inexperienced with RF measurements will be using RailHawk, the optional Technician Mode software allows an expert to define measurements that are recalled by a user, limiting the chance for errors or wrong configurations. Common Rail measurements come preinstalled. The full functionality of the RailHawk is retained as an Administrator Mode.
A Bird Factory Calibration ensures your RailHawk is continuing to provide accurate, reliable data. We recommend a Factory Calibration of the calibration combo and power sensor at least once every year, and RailHawk itself at least once every 3 years.

The optional technician mode allows for tests defined by an expert to be recalled and run by technicians or others unfamiliar with RF testing. It comes with VSWR and Distance to Fault (DTF) location tests preinstalled for the following:
802.11 WiFi (2.4 GHz), ACC GPS (1575 MHz), ATCS WOR SPEC200 (900 MHz), CELL 800 (800 MHz), CELL 1900 (1900 MHz), ER DOWNLOAD (915 MHz), HOT-FOT DPU RCL (450 MHz), PTC 220 RCL (220 MHz), Voice Radio (160 MHz)
Each RailHawk kit comes with different adapters, listed above. Specifically:
The 4240-401 kit includes
The 4240-550 kit includes
The 4240-560 kit includes
The RF output port of RailHawk is a Type N(m) connector.
RailHawk enables you and your team to quickly verify the performance of communication systems along your railway and on locomotives, whether they're RF experts or not. When problems are found, Distance-to-Fault measurements identify the location of the fault.
